Family therapy– Separation Anxiety Disorder is one oft the most frequent mental disorders in children. The SAFT treatment manual is an evidence-based family therapy program for children with separation anxiety. Its first part consists of four weekly sessions with the child and four weekly sessions with the parents.
Cognitive behavior therapy– Children will learn to change their thinking and think in more rational and productive ways. Over time, with CBT kids with separation anxiety can also learn to think about separations differently and examine their fears more rationally.
Systematic desensitization– A variant form of exposure therapy is called systematic desensitization. This technique avoids overwhelming anxious people. First, the therapist teaches participants age-appropriate relaxation methods.
This helps them learn to relax in the presence of fearful situations.
